St. Stephen's plans pancake dinner

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will host a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 422 W. Second.

Proceeds of the dinner will be donated to Steffanie Roach who has been diagnosed with leukemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. She is the daughter of the Rev. James and Sandy Roach.

Tickets are $3; children 5 and under will eat for free. For more information, call the church at 382-4961.

Serra Club to host cheese enchilada dinner

The Grand Island Serra Club will host a cheese enchilada dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral Square, 207 S. Elm.

The menu will consist of cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, chips and salsa, lemonade, coffee and water. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and under.

Proceeds from the dinner will assist Serra Club's mission of supporting vocations to the Roman Catholic priesthood and religious life through prayer, encouragement and affirmation. Serra International responds to the vocational needs of the Catholic Church nationwide.

Chartered in November 2006, the Grand Island Serra Club is a group of Catholic laypeople dedicated to fostering and affirming vocations to the priesthood and vowed religious life in the Grand Island Diocese.

St. Pauls Lutheran plans Lenten series

During Lent, St. Pauls Lutheran Church will focus o the theme "Traveling with the Christ," in a series of studies at 11 a.m. in the chapel and 6 p.m. in the sanctuary each Wednesday beginning Feb. 6.

Those participating will be invited to take a look at the places where faith takes them. Some of those destinations will be cause for "pause" and "repose" while other destinations will call for action.

Each Wednesday evening will begin with a meal at the Faith Walk Cafe serving at 5:15 p.m. Theu church is located at 1515 S. Harrison.

Zion Lutheran offers Lenten services

Zion Lutheran will begin Wednesday evening services at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 and Lenten services will continue through March 12. Worship services will be followed by fellowship in Zion's Parish Hall.

The theme of Lent will follow the thoughts of Jesus from Matthew 4:4, "Man cannot live by bread alone " The six services will follow the format: by every blessing from His hand; by the blood that He has shed; by the stone that He has rolled; by His light upon or path; by the way of Immanuel; and by the way of the Rider on the white horse.

Zion Lutheran is located two miles east and two miles north of Hampton at the corner of 16th and "Y" roads.

Lenten services at Peace Lutheran Church

"This, then, is how you should pray" is the theme the Rev. Richard "Kip" Smith has chosen for the Lenten messages at Peace Lutheran Church, beginning at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.

Smith's messages will focus on the "Introduction and Petitions of the Lord's Prayer," and be studied in the light of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. Ash Wednesday services will include "Imposition of Ashes" and the "Lord's Supper;" Maundy Thursday will include Holy Communion; Good Friday services will be at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Meals will be served each Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall frp, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran plans 'Love Dinner with God'

For adults who do not have someone special to spend Valentine's Day with, Trinity Lutheran Church has planned a "Love Dinner With God" at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in the church's fellowship hall, 212 W. 12th.

A full course meal and entertainment will be included in the evening. A freewill offering will be taken to help defray costs. Reservations are needed by Monday, Feb. 4; call 382-0753.

Central City church continues spiritual programs

CENTRAL CITY "Standing tall: Facing fears that grip the soul," a series of programs, continues at 5 p.m. today (Saturday) and 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Central City United Methodist Church, 2601 18th Ave.

This week's focus will be on "Standing tall against skeletons in the close.t" Weekly group study and discussions are also offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.

Grand Island church to host K.I.T.E. Seminar

The K.I.T.E. Seminar (Kid's Institute for Training and Equipping) is coming to the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island starting at 8 a.m. Feb. 16.

Guest presenter will be Larry Fowler, executive director of global training for AWANA Clubs International. Fowler's three sessions will offer practical insights to give kids a solid biblical foundation at home, school, and church. In addition to Fowler's sessions, workshop options include: "How do kids of all ages respond to death of a loved one?," "Nursery the other front door!" and "Bringing the Bible to life." Seminar sessions are for anyone who works with children in a church, Christian school or day care setting.

The seminar begins with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and will wrap up by 2 p.m. The seminar registration fee of $20 per person includes three sessions with Larry Fowler, choice of workshops, breakfast, lunch and door prizes.
