Carstens powers G.I. past Columbus

COLUMBUS < Sam Carstens poured in 25 points to lead Grand Island Senior High to a 58-47 road win over Columbus Friday night.

The Islanders (13-4) had a strong night both defensively and on the boards, according to head coach Dave Oman.

"This was a very physical game tonight, I thought the job we did on the boards was the difference in the game," Oman said.

Oman praised Pete Kropp for his defensive work in the game.

"Pete did a nice job on Brian Cleary as he held him to just three points in the second half," Oman added.

Cleary tossed in 14 points for the Discoverers (4-12), who were led by Kurt Farmer with 17.

The Islanders host rival Kearney at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Heartland Events Center.
