Salvation Army

Captains Jeff and Debbie Richardson, the Advisory Board and employees of the Salvation Army of Hall County wish to thank the community for a very successful Christmas effort for 2007. The Christmas fund raising goal was $103,000 for the season, and we raised nearly $108,00. Volunteers put in nearly 2000 hours ringing the bells to raise the needed funds to run the Feeding Program, Food Pantry, and Men's Emergency Shelter. Still more volunteers packed food bags, sorted toys, and walked families through our Toy shop to help over 100 families with a Chrismas meal and toys for the nearly 250 children on our help list. Without a caring and giving group of people in the community, we would not be able to help those who come to us for help during the holiday season. Again, thank you to all the donors and volunteers for your generous help.

Thanks to Library staff

Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Grand Island would like to thank two very dedicated staff members of the Grand Island City Library. A special thank you to Celine Stahlnecker, library technician, for assisting Bickford Cottage with development of our designated library and reading area. Celine visited Bickford Cottage and designed our library along with suggesting books, periodicals, magazines and books on tape that our ladies and gentlemen residing here would read. We also have a large assortment of books in large print. With Celine's assistance, Bickford Cottage Assisted Living residents are now enjoying the finest in library services. Thank you also goes to Brenda Broecker, library assistant, who frequents Bickford Cottage bringing books from the Bookmobile. Grand Island can be very proud of the community kindness and professionalism shown by the staff at the Grand Island City Library.

Stuck in the snow

On my way to a meeting last Wednesday I was unable to complete one of the sharp turns on South Blaine and my car ended up stuck in the snow. I was without a cell phone and I needed to be at the meeting on time. It was my good fortune to have two gentlemen come along who pushed me out in no time. Several others came quite late to the meeting having had the same experience as I, but weren't as lucky as I in having someone come to their rescue. Thanks so much. Hope I can pass it on.

Hullabaloo success

Congratulations to the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation for a hugely successful event in Hullabaloo last weekend! Along with that goes a big thank you to the many folks who volunteered to help make it so wonderful. Thanks also goes to the dozens of businesses and individuals who helped underwrite/sponsor the event. This truly was a team effort... one that I'm proud to be associated with.
