Since when is 'glib' a presidential attribute?
I watched "This Week" with George Stephanopolus last Sunday and on their roundtable discussion, one of the esteemed panel members stated Hillary Clinton was eminently electable because she was so "glib" about everything in her answers and what a positive trait it was for her politically.
I looked up the meaning of glib in Merriam Webster's Dictionary. It means: "marked by ease and informality, showing little forethought or preparation (offhand) as in glib answers, lacking depth and substance (superficial) as in glib solutions to knotty problems, smooth, slippery, marked by ease and fluency in speaking and writing often to the point of being insincere or deceitful (glib politician)."
Perhaps this gentleman thought he was doing her a favor and then again perhaps not. I wondered if I would vote for a candidate who was glib and concluded I would not. I am convinced many people in our country will exactly vote for a glib candidate because they don't care about their sincerity, deceitfulness or truthfulness because they just want their candidate elected, regardless. I think this applies to both parties.
I have said this time after time, "This country will have the president it deserves." I hope it is a president who is not glib.

Judges need to be tougher on crime
Here we go again! According to the newspaper, a man was charged with child abuse for the second time in a week and one of our County Court judges has supposedly again seen fit to release him on his own recognizance. In other words, without posting any bond. It seems the man was being arrested for DUI when he decided to tell the officer that his 8 month old daughter was in the car. The car was not running and the temperature outside was sub-zero. A few days later, this same man was again charged with child abuse/neglect for leaving the same 8 month old child home alone.
It's my understanding that the amount of bond required for a defendant is based upon the crime(s) charged and the likelihood of the defendant returning for his scheduled court dates. It seems like every week, there are several people listed in the paper who are being charged with or who have warrants out for failure to appear. Perhaps if defendants were not released upon posting 10 per cent of the actual bond amount or on their own recognizance, they would "remember" to appear for court. They also might not have the opportunity to commit the same crime(s) within a few days and endanger the lives of innocent children.
Our judges are initially appointed to their positions. Voters must then vote on whether or not to retain them in office at certain intervals. Perhaps people need to pay more attention to what our judges are doing and if they really should be retained in office. If more than 50 per cent of the voters indicate that the judge should not be retained, the judge is removed. If we start holding our judges more accountable, perhaps our judges will hold defendants more accountable.

No facts in smear attacks on Obama
In a letter seen here roughly a week ago, we were advised to not accept solely what the media decides to tell us regarding Barack Obama and his faith. This would be sound advice if the information that we are told to take into account weren't patently false.
Senator Obama did live in Indonesia from ages 6-10. The school he attended during the first two years was predominantly Muslim; however, intermixed were Christian and Buddhist students, who learned under secular teachings. Obama has never practiced Islam, or any other religion other than Christianity.
If you'd like to know more about Obama's faith, visit the Trinity United Church of Christ's website. Their congregation cherishes their African roots and draws strength through God to address racism and injustice.
Other rumors swirling around include Obama being sworn in with the Koran in place of the Bible, and that Obama turns his back on the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. All of these rumors are unsourced and completely unfounded.
As we prepare to choose a candidate to lead us, the American people, I implore everyone to be aware of fallacious and slanderous accusations that are bound to find their way into voters' minds throughout the campaign. We need to make an educated choice based on fact, and not based on hearsay.
