Three brothers are in the Hall County Jail for assault after two other men were beat up for intervening in a domestic dispute.
Joshua Heredia, 23, of 2222 Bellwood Drive, Apt. 74, is charged with felony first-degree assault and strangulation, and misdemeanor third-degree domestic assault and third-degree assault. His younger brothers, David I. Heredia, 19, of Lyons, Kan., and Jeremiah Heredia, 22, of Newton, Kan., are each charged with felony aiding and abetting first-degree assault and misdemeanor third-degree assault.
The incident began after Joshua Heredia's live-in girlfriend, Jillian Scott, approached her neighbor, Casey Smith, and another man, Willie Walker, and told them she had been assaulted by Heredia, said Grand Island police Sgt. Jerry Atwell.
Scott told police she had fought with Joshua Heredia before she went to Club 69 without him. He later showed up at the nightclub and the couple argued again. He left and she walked back to the apartment, Atwell said.
When Scott got to the residence, she attempted to wake Heredia up. When he failed to respond, she went to Smith's apartment, 2222 Bellwood Drive, Apt. 75, and spoke to him and Walker, who lives in Apartment 98 of the same complex, Atwell said.
Scott let Smith and Walker into her apartment and Heredia, who had woken up, became angry and ordered them to leave. They argued and Heredia left, Atwell said.
He returned a short time later with his brothers, who were visiting from Kansas, Atwell said.
The brothers assaulted Smith with either The Club a steering wheel locking device or an ice scraper. Smith suffered a broken eye socket, a broken nose and several cuts, Atwell said.
According to a nursing supervisor, Smith was treated at St. Francis Medical Center and released Sunday.
Walker and Scott suffered only minor injuries, Atwell said.
Police were called to the scene at about 3:50 a.m. When officers arrived, the Heredia brothers were gone, Atwell said.
David Heredia and Jeremiah Heredia were arrested at 504 N. Elm St., No. 311 and were booked into the jail at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, according to jail records.
Joshua Heredia turned himself in to authorities at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Atwell said.
Bonds for each of the men were set at 10 percent of $50,000 and they were each ordered not to have any contact with Smith and Walker. Joshua Heredia was also ordered not to have contact with Scott.
Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 4 p.m. March 3.
