Nebraska State Patrol recruits have an additional education tool.

On Monday, the patrol's training academy, 3600 N. Academy Road, accepted a truck-tractor from Roadway Express, a leading transporter of industrial, commercial and retail goods throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

The donation will assist the patrol in providing training to all Nebraska law enforcement officers, increasing the awareness and understanding of the special conditions that exist while conducting roadside stops and inspections.

"Law enforcement officers encounter unique challenges when working with commercial motor vehicles," patrol Col. Bryan Tuma said.

"These unique conditions can often heighten the dangers that officers already face. The assistance provided and the professionalism demonstrated by the Roadway Express Safety Team is greatly appreciated."

This is the second donation from the trucking company. In 2007, Roadway donated two semi-trailers for teaching purposes.

"These donations represent another part of the trucking industry's tireless commitment to support the goal of reducing commercial motor vehicle crashes on our highways," Tuma said.
