ST. PAUL < A St. Paul man was hospitalized with severe burns last week, and a teenage boy may face assault charges for the incident.
Carl Johns, 26, was taken to Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul early last Wednesday morning with significant burns to his neck, chest, head and face, said St. Paul Police Chief Steve Studnicka.
He was later flown to the St. Elizabeth Burn and Wound Care Center in Lincoln.
A 17-year-old St. Paul boy has been referred to the Howard County attorney's office for prosecution for assault in the incident, Studnicka said. He declined to give the boy's name.
The incident occurred at 1016 Eighth St. in St. Paul, which is not Johns' home, Studnicka said.
No one was arrested.
Studnicka declined to describe the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how Johns was burned, saying parts of the investigation were still up in the air.
He said he believed Johns had been released from St. Elizabeth. An employee at the hospital said Johns was not on the list of patients there.
