Grant County opposes National Scenic Byway
Grant County commissioners formally oppose designation of Highway 2 as a National Scenic Byway. The residents of Grant County have spoken in support of the county commissioners decision by signing a county- wide petition. This petition states that a National Scenic Byway through the county is counter-productive to agriculture.
This petition is a result of contact with R. James Pearson, Nebraska State Byways coordinator, in April 2007. Mr. Pearson was informed that Grant County commissioners voted not to support designation of Highway 2 as a National Scenic Byway. Mr. Pearson stated "local support is wanted, but not necessary; we can do it anyway." Local government has spoken. Local tax payers have spoken. Grant County is not in support of having Highway 2 through Grant County being designated a National Scenic Byway.
In order to prevent a National Scenic Byways designation, a grassroots petition drive was started. This petition has local support with over 300,000 acres of land represented by the signatures of taxpayers.
We want written assurance that Grant County Nebraska will not be part of National Scenic Byway designation.
We insist that a review is in order of the policies dictating designation of National Scenic Byways. Local government must have the power to decline inclusion. At no point should elected local government be ignored to establish federal designation.
Local government should have ultimate control of federal designations in local jurisdictions.

Looking for info on Business School of Grand Island
My father-in-law, Clyde Birkholtz, attended the Business School of Grand Island probably between 1910 - 1920. We would like to know more about this school and possibly the exact dates he did attend. We do have three old pictures of buildings, students, teachers, and a sports team. Can anyone help me find more out about this school and where the old records might possibly be?
