There's probably no better companion to "Dial 'M' for Murder" than "Death by Chocolate."
The chocolate- and wine-tasting event being organized in its first year by the Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity is scheduled for the evening of Feb. 16, just before the Grand Island Little Theater's suspense drama.
With wine from area vineyards and chocolate goodies to sample along with the traditional cheese and crackers, Habitat Executive Director Dana Jelinek said she hopes Grand Island residents will come before "Dial 'M'" and experience something new.
Tickets cost $25 per person, which covers the cost of admission to both "Death by Chocolate" and "Dial 'M' For Murder." The wine-tasting starts at 5:30 p.m., with the play following at 7:30.
Both events will be held at College Park, and interested event-goers are urged to purchase their tickets in advance. As of last Friday, about 50 seats were still available.
Because of their timing, "Death by Chocolate" and "Dial 'M'" could make for a perfect Valentine's weekend activity, Jelinek said.
Wine from George Spencer and Cedar Hills vineyards will be available for tasting and purchase, and local businesses will provide a variety of chocolate items, including chocolate-covered cherries, chocolate-dipped strawberries and chocolate candies, among others.
Habitat's portion of the proceeds will go toward raising money for a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans challenge grant. Habitat is about $4,000 shy of reaching the $20,000 mark it needs to receive a $50,000 grant from Thrivent. That grant would go toward building a specific house this spring.
Jelinek said she hopes "Death by Chocolate" will be an enjoyable start to the evening for all who attend.
"I think it's just a fun, different thing to do with the two non-profits doing it in conjunction with one another," Jelinek said. "You can help both at the same time and maybe do something for the first time."
