Third City Community Clinic to receive $1,200 from Barr fundraiser
Barr Middle School students have voted the Third City Community Clinic as the recipient of $1,200 the students raised during their Person of Prominence nights.
Eighth-grade students will present the donation to clinic representatives at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Barr's auditorium, said Jason Weaver, Barr social studies teacher.
Person of Prominence nights were held at Barr on Jan. 8 and 10. During the nights, students portrayed prominent people in history complete with costumes and posed like figures in a wax museum.
As guests approached the students, they could place a small donation in a container. The Person of Prominence then came to life and shared a short story.
"Students worked extremely hard on their research projects, which incorporated learning targets for social studies, language arts and instructional technology classes," Weaver said. "Now, they also get to experience what it feels like to help people in their community."
