The application period for families wishing to partner on Habitat for Humanity homes is under way. The housing ministry's mission is seeking low-income families who wish to become homeowners and have no other means to fulfill that dream. Deadline for returned applications is March 31.
Recently, two new partner families were selected.
Becky Hatcher, who works for American Family Insurance, has already started on her mandatory 500 hours of "sweat equity" for her family.
Amelia Reimers, a cosmetologist, will partner on this year's All Church Build, which is a home constructed by several local churches. Reimers has also started on the sweat equity requirement for her family.
Each applicant must complete an application, plus demonstrate a need for housing, ability to pay a no-interest mortgage and a willingness to partner with Habitat. To be considered for a Habitat for Humanity home, families must be at or near 50 percent of the area's median income, based on family size. Applications must be picked up in the Habitat office.
Upon the closing of the application period, a selection committee will review completed applications, supporting documents, credit reports, criminal background checks and references. Those that closely match the criteria are subject to interviews and home visits by the committee.
