Nearly 8 inches of snow recorded in area from Tuesday's storm

The winter storm that hit Central Nebraska Tuesday left nearly 8 inches of snow in parts of the area.

The National Weather Service in Hastings reported the following snowfall totals from Tuesday's storm: Hastings, 4 miles north, 7.7 inches; Osceola, 5.6 inches; York, 5 inches; Wolbach, 3.6 inches; Arcadia, 3 inches; Fullerton, 3 inches; Greeley, 3 inches; Ashton, 3 inches; Grand Island, 7 miles northeast, 2.7 inches; Loup City, 2.5 inches; St. Paul, 4 miles north, 2 inches; and Wood River, 1.5 inches.

For Grand Island, the National Weather Service reported 2.7 inches at the airport. Grand Island's snowfall since Dec. 1, 2007, is 15.5 inches, which is 1.5 inches above average for this time of year. Last year at this time, that total was 8.4 inches.

Precipitation so far this month is 0.23 of an inch, which is 0.15 of an inch above average. Wednesday's high was 23 degrees, which is 15 degrees below average. A year ago, the high was 48 degrees. The low Wednesday was 6 degrees, which was 9 degrees below average for this time of year.

For Thursday, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 31. Wind chill values as low as -1 are forecast, with northwest wind around 9 mph becoming south southwest. There will again be a slight chance for snow Thursday night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Temperatures will warm up on Friday to the mid-30s before turning cold during the weekend, with highs between the mid-20s and the upper teens.
