Boy Scout Troop 114 reschedules pancake feed for Tuesday
The pancake feed for Boy Scout Troop 114 has been rescheduled for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church, 12th and Eddy streets.
American Cancer Society Daffodil Days
Grand Island and Hall County residents have until Feb. 16 to place their orders for daffodils to help fight cancer.
There are three Daffodil Days products to choose from: Bear and a Bunch-Purchase Bea R. Hope, a special Boyd's Bear designed for Daffodil Days, and 10 daffodil stems for $25.
Sunshine Bouquet-An official American Cancer Society Daffodil Days glass vase and 10 daffodil stems for $15.
Individual Bouquet-10 Daffodil stems for $10. Daffodils are also available in half-case or whole-case quantities.
Orders are now being taken by contacting Bonnie Fisher at 384-8499, Debb Ahrens at 381-7407, or Sandy Burris at 384-3486. Daffodils will be distributed during the week of March 3.
Grand Island Senior High hosts the Boys Basketball Bonanza
The Boys Basketball Bonanza for Grand Island Public Schools' fifth-graders will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Grand Island Senior High School.
The event will be in the East Gym and Middle Gym at the high school. Students will participate in a variety of basketball skill tests and shooting games.
The skill tests include free throw shooting, 30-second continuous shooting, 30-second dribble and lay-up, and 30-second hot shot shooting. The shooting games include Team Knock Out, Dribbling Three Shot, and Team 21.
Admission to the Boys Basketball Bonanza is free.
Community Foundation sets scholarship application deadline
The Grand Island Community Foundation has announced that the 2008 scholarship application deadline for high school seniors, returning adults and nontraditional students will be March 1.
Application materials are available from school counselors. Students can also access scholarship information online at www.gifc.org or by calling 381-7767.
The Grand Island Community Foundation manages 26 separate scholarship funds. Some support students pursuing a particular career path, while others might be designated for students graduating from a specific high school or attending a designated college. In 2007, the foundation awarded 56 scholarships ranging from $250 to $3,000 and totaling $47,050.
The foundation's office is in the St. Stephen's Community Center at 410 W. Second St., Suite 2.

Elba Kolache Shoot-Out to set for Feb. 17
Elba's annual Kolache Shoot-Out is set for Feb. 17 at the Elba High School gym.
Registration for the kolache bake show will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Judging will take place at 11 and awards will be given from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
St. Joseph's Catholic Church will host a polka Mass at 10 a.m., followed by dinner at the high school from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dinner will include the Elba Community Foundation's bake sale along with the Elba Fire Department serving Polish dogs and soup.
Music will be provided by the Manchester Band, the Friends Czech Band and the Czechlanders Band, with Willie Skala as emcee.
