Red-White spring game tickets going fast

LINCOLN Tickets for the April 19 Red-White Spring Football Game are now available for purchaseat Huskers.com and by contacting the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8BIG RED or 402-472-3111.

Tickets for the game went on sale on Wednesday morning and more than 22,700 tickets had been sold by 5 p.m., including more than 5,800on-line ticket sales in the first hour alone. By comparison, approximately 27,600 tickets were sold in advance of last year's Red-White Game which drew a crowd of more than 54,000 fans.

This season, in a change from recent years, reserved tickets for the spring game are available and are going fast. Approximately 25,000 reserved seats in the East and West Stadiumswere available at a cost of $10 per ticket, but fans wishing to purchase a reserved ticket are encouraged to do so soon. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m.

In addition to the reserved tickets, fans may also purchase general admission tickets at the cost of $8 for adults and $4 for youth (high school age and younger) and seniors. Children under age six, as well as UNL students, faculty and staff (with ID) will be admitted for free. Children (junior high or younger) wishing to take the Drug Free Pledge at halftime will also be admitted for free. General admission seating will be in the North and South stadiums.

NU's Parsons eclipses 100-title mark vs. Michigan

LINCOLN Senior Emily Parsons won three individual event titles to pass the 100-career titles mark, but it was not enough to propel No. 12 Nebraska past fifth-ranked Michigan in a 196.575-196.075 loss Thursday night at the Devaney Center.

In front of 2,416 fans, NU posted a 49.0 or better on vault and beam, but dropped to 3-3 on the year.

Parsons won the all-around (39.375), beam (9.875) and floor (9.875) crowns for a career total of 101, tying sophomore Tricia Woo for first on beam and floor. Senior Desire' Sniatynski and junior Vanessa Meloche also matched scores of 9.875 to win the bars title.

Nebraska opened the meet on vault, where Parsons led the way with a 9.90 for runner-up honors. Freshman Erin Davis placed fifth (9.825), while Woo followed up with a 9.775 for sixth. Sniatynski and Scaffidi matched scores of 9.75, helping NU finish the rotation with a 49.00 just behind the Wolverines' bars total of 49.175.

* WRESTLING

Neb.-Kearney wins in battle of the Antelopes

KEARNEY The fourth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team used four forfeits, a fall and a medical forfeit to roll past Grand Canyon University of Arizona, 43-3, Friday night at the Health and Sports Center.

UNK improved to 10-3 on the year and remains perfect in the RMAC (4-0). Grand Canyon, a first-year program that is redshirting most of its roster, falls to 0-22-1.

Fifth-ranked Western State visits UNK Saturday night in the Lopers final home appearance of the year.

* TRACK & FIELD

Hastings College athletes earn weekly GPAC honors

HASTINGS Hastings College's Katie Moeller and Scott Van Cura were selected as Great Plains Athletic Conference track and field athletes of the week for field events.

Moeller, a freshman from Grand Island won the high jump for the third week in a row and cleared 5 feet, 7 inches at the Doane Scott Nisely Memorial Invitational. Her mark is the best in the GPAC and second in the NAIA behind a 6-0.75 jump by Ruky Abdulai from Simon Fraser University.

Van Cura, a senior from Hastings, won the weight throw at the Doane Scott Nisely Memorial Invitational with a throw of 58-5. He also posted a third-place mark of 53-4 in the shot put and was selected as the male athlete of the meet.

NU's Bell wins weight throw at Adidas Classic

LINCOLN Bryan Bell started off the Adidas Classic on the right foot for Nebraska as he won the first event of the meet, taking the men's weight throw Friday.

Bell claimed first place with a new personal-best mark of 63-4, good enough to move him into eighth all-time on the Husker indoor chart. The senior from Bellevue beat fellow Husker senior Aaron Bozarth, who finished in third at 56-11 1/2.

In the women's weight throw, senior Tamara Solari finished as the runner-up with a final mark of 58-8.

In the men's 5,000-meters, freshman Eric Thies improved his personal best by 5.49 seconds to finish in sixth place with a time of 15:42.69.

Action will pick back up on Saturday with a full day of events as both the field and running events start at 11 a.m. The women's long jump starts off the field events, while the prelims of the women's 60-meter hurdles start the running events. The last event of the night, the men's 4x400-meter relay, is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.

* BASKETBALL

Hoops Classic tournament deadline is Friday

The Trinity Lutheran and Heartland Lutheran Boosters Clubs will be hosting the 12th annual Hoops Classic basketball tournament March 7-9 in Grand Island.

The registration deadline Friday. The tournament is open to girls and boys teams in grades 4-8.

The entry fee is $75 and each team is guaranteed three games with no split courts.

* BASEBALL

Hastings College opens with doubleheader split

PUEBLO, Colo. The Hastings College baseball team split its season-opening doubleheader with Colorado Christian Friday.

The Broncos lost game one 12-2 in seven innings, but rebounded in game two with a 12-4 win.

The two teams will play again Saturday in a single nine-inning game at Runyan Field in Pueblo, starting at 11 a.m. The games were moved to Pueblo due to poor field conditions in Denver.

* HIGH SCHOOLS

GICC Booster Club meeting set for Sunday

The Grand Island Central Catholic athletics booster club will be meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday in the school media center.
