UNL Extension 4-H Council names officers, members

UNL Extension in Hall County has announced 4-H Council members appointed for the 2008 year and officers elected.

Officers for 2008 include: Kelly Johnson, president; Jamee Bockerman, vice president; Therese Hulme, treasurer; and Kathy McWilliams, secretary. Additional members of the council include Anne Aubushon, Danelle Collins, Ed Garcia, Norm Krolikowski, Garrod Luhn, Joan McKee, Larry Rauert and Susan Wagner. Youth members of the Council are Britton Hulme, Jody McKee, Miranda Pollack, Micah Rauert, Sara Robbins and Laura Steele.

Council members provide leadership for the Hall County 4-H program through program planning, policy making, managing 4-H finances, and servings as a link to the community. Adult Council members are appointed for a three year term, while youth members serve one year.

Community members interested in serving on 4-H Council or other questions about the Council can be directed to D'Ette Scholtz, Extension Educator and 4-H Council advisor.

Former Islander named council officer

Grand Island native named Public Information Officer in California

Jane Dreher, formerly of Grand Island, has been named Public Information Officer for San Bernardino Associated Governments, the council of governments and transportation planning authority for San Bernardino County in Southern California.

Dreher graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1967 and moved to California in 1986. While living in Grand Island, she was marketing officer for the former Commercial National Bank for five years and Communications and Energy Education Director at Southern Nebraska Power District for eight years.

Volunteers to be recognized during Library Legislative Day

Seven library volunteers will be honored at the Nebraska Library Legislative Day on Tuesday in Lincoln.

Among the honorees will be Rogene Aulner of Hastings and Virginia Good of Grand Island.

Aulner started helping at the Hastings Public Library in 1992 when she was looking for something to do that would allow her to give back to the community.

Good volunteers at the Grand Island Veterans Home Library and provides access to books and computers when the residents are unable to do so on their own.

The theme for this years Legislative Day is "Why Libraries Matter: Literacy, Learning and Quality of Life".
