Stuhr Museum announces quilt show winners

Stuhr Museum Quilt Show brought vendors and textile arts enthusiasts from around the state to Grand Island on Feb. 2 and 3 to see ab array of quilts, take classes and expand their knowledge of this growing and vibrant art form.

The show featured exhibits from Stuhr's own collection ranging from conventional to abstract, and vendors who provided plenty of material for enthusiasts.

The winners of the 2008 "It's Quilting Time" Quilt Contest were announced and include:

* Large Category: "My Warm Cabin Nights," by Wanda Mowry of Gering; "Palette of Color," by Jan Rockford of Nebraska; and "Fields of Blue, Mountains of Orange," by Amanda Benz of Kearney.

* Medium Category: "Basket? What Basket," by Benz of Kearney; "There's Quilting in My DNA," by TaeRee Glover of Nelson; and "Crazy, Sexy Witches," by Dorothy Alexander of Superior.

* Small Category: "Fun, Fun, Fun," by Benz; "Square Tricks," by Leslie Martin of Pleasanton; and "Bees in the Churn - Dash Away," by Jan Johnson of Wakefield.

"Log Cabin Blocks" by Mildred Hoffman of Grand Island, earned the People's Choice Award.
