HASTINGS The Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History honored its volunteers on Saturday with a Chinese New Year celebration.
Special recognition was given to Lloyd Dragoo, a volunteer since 1975, for giving more than 3,800 hours of service to the museum and city of Hastings.
Other honorees include Agnes Anderson, Dorothy Friedewald, Ann Wolf and Sarah Wolf, for working more than 50 hours in 2007; Agnes Anderson, for donating a total of 1,000 hours, during her 19 years as a volunteer; and Madeline Fitz and Fred Teller, volunteering for 20 years.
Hastings Senior High School student Monica Lopez, president of S.A.D.D. accepted an award on behalf of her school. Hastings students were recognized for donating more than 100 hours of service to the museum.
These volunteers, some of whom have worked more than 1,000 hours and 20 years, take an active part in many events throughout the year; such as SummerFun classes, the Spooktacular Boo-seum, Senior Tea and Tour, Family Fridays, Kool-Aid Sunday and the Native American Festival. Volunteers also help the curator with assembling exhibits and preparing artifacts.
