Sen. Barack Obama's blockbuster visit to Omaha may have helped him win the state's first Democratic presidential caucuses Saturday, but after Chelsea Clinton's stop in Grand Island, Hall County's vote tilted in her mother's favor.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton narrowly carried Hall County's caucuses, gaining 421 votes to Obama's 397.

According to results from the state Democratic Party, the county is projected to send eight delegates to the state convention for Clinton and seven for Obama.

State delegates are awarded according to the total number of voters for a candidate and are divided by Legislative districts, said Glen Murray, chairman of the Hall County Democratic Party.

Since Hall County has four Legislative districts within its borders, Murray said, its number of delegates to the state convention has not yet been finally determined.

Clinton won 131 delegates to the county's Democratic convention, Murray said. Obama drew 116 delegates.

Delegates at the county convention, to be held June 5, will choose the delegates to the state convention.

Chelsea Clinton visited Grand Island on Thursday night for a question-and-answer session, the same day Obama spoke in Omaha.

Former Sen. John Edwards, who dropped out of the race last week, received one delegate in the county, and two precincts will send an uncommitted delegate, Murray said.

About 800 Democrats voted in the county, out of about 11,000 registered.

Murray said he didn't have an expected turnout coming into the vote, but he was satisfied with the final number.

"I'm pleased that there were that many Democrats willing to show up on a Saturday afternoon and talk with their neighbors about the presidential election," he said.
