Gilbert takes new job

Grand Island City Councilwoman Peg Gilbert has taken a new job in Kearney.

She's the outcome qualities manager at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Gilbert previously worked at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island before retiring from that job last fall.

She started the job in Kearney Jan. 7 and works there three days a week.

Crisis Center, Pump & Pantry team up for fundraiser

Area Pump & Pantry stores are helping to raise funds for the Crisis Center by selling Valentine balloons Monday through Thursday this week.

Helium-filled latex balloons will be available for $2 each or two for $3. Sponsorships from local businesses helped lower the cost of the 1,000 balloons for sale this year.

Proceeds from balloon sales will be donated to the Crisis Center shelters for families of domestic violence or sexual assault.

Balloons can be purchased at all Grand Island Pump & Pantry locations, as well as Pump & Pantry stores in Cairo, Chapman, Aurora, St. Paul, Doniphan, Central City and St. Libory.

The Crisis Center serves families in Hall, Howard, Hamilton and Merrick counties.
