Grand Island Senior High debate team
Islander debaters competed in two recent debate tournaments in cluding the Fremont High School Invitational Tournament on Jan. 19. Kolten Wall won a first-place presiding officer gavel award for the third consecutive tournament. Kandice Jeffers won a fifth-place medal.
The Islanders competed in the Kearney Invitational Tournament on Feb. 2. Wall son a third-place medal for Congress Debate, and Jeffers received a sixth-place medal.
Aurora Invitational results
AURORA The Aurora Varsity Team came in fourth with 155 points.
Aurora Varsity medalists were Zac Brokenrope first place in serious prose; Dan Haden and Katie Christie, second place in duet acting, Katie Christie, second place in poetry; Haden, third place in extemporaneous speaking; Brokenrope, third place in entertainment; Samantha Monter, fourth place in persuasive; Alicia Graham, fifth place in poetry; Jenny Pickering, Ben Donnell, Suzy Nelson, Sarah Vrana, and Katie Christie, sixth place in oral interpretation of drama.
Superior performance ribbons went to Nelson in serious prose, Alex Cerveny in informative, Tammy Monter in informative, Cerveny and Leslie Graves in duet acting, and Kiley Dibbern in entertainment.
The Aurora Novice Team was champion with 124 points.
Aurora Novice medalists were Kaylee Freese, first place in humorous prose;, Kylee Evans, second place in poetry; Ellie Cerveny and Abbie Farrand, second placei n duet acting; Joel Ratzlaff, third place in extemporaneous; Caitlin Gauthier, third place in informative; Jeni Moellenberndt, fourth place in informative; and Abbie Farrand fourth place in entertainment.
Superior performance ribbons went to Cerveny in poetry and Curtus Wengler in entertainment.
Superior and excellent ratings went to Danielle Skorniah in humorous prose; excellent ratings went to Kathryn Larson in entertainment; Curtis Wengler in humorous prose; Larson, Kylee Evans, Ratzlaff, Gauthier, and Graham in oral interpretation of drama.
