Brester and Huskers roll past Rider, 27-12

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. Seventh-ranked Craig Brester topped 12th-ranked T.J. Morrison at 197 pounds to propel the No. 2 Huskers past Rider, 27-12, on Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Nebraska won its fourth straight dual to improve to 13-2 on the season, while Rider dropped to 6-12.

The Huskers dealt with a pesky Bronc squad all day, as a Rider win at 184 pounds pulled the Broncs within six points, 15-9, and evened the dual at three matches each. Brester then notched a 9-1 major decision over Morrision at 197 to spark NU to victories in three of the final four matches.

Hudiburgh wins GPAC title for Hastings College

MITCHELL, S.D. The Hastings College Wrestling team placed fifth at the GPAC Championships Saturday afternoon at the Corn Palace.

The highlight of the day was Brandon Hudiburgh and Cody Millard took home first place at their respected weights for the Broncos.

Hudiburgh won at 197 pounds while Cody Millard won at the heavyweight division.

Husker women extend win streak to seven

LINCOLN The Nebraska women's tennis team won its seventh straight match to start the season on Saturday morning, as they swept the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 7-0.

The 7-0 victory gives the Huskers a team-record seven consecutive shutouts.

Arizona State powers past Nebraska, 9-0

TEMPE Ariz. - A young Nebraska softba ll team starting six freshmen was no match for a veteran Arizona State squad, as the fifth-ranked Sun Devils ran past the Huskers, 9-0 in five innings Saturday night at Farrington Stadium.

NU had gone 235 consecutive games without suffering a run-rule defeat.

Huskers earn four NCAA provisional times

AMES, Iowa The Husker track and field team left the Iowa State Classic on Saturday night with four NCAA provisional times. Peter van der Westhuizen and Natalja Zarcenko each set qualifying times in the one mile, while Sheryl Morgan and Lukas Hulett set times in the 400-meter dash.

For the second-straight week van der Westhuizen came very close to a four-minute mile. His second-place time of 4:01.49 increased his NCAA qualifying time in the one mile.

van der Westhuizen currently ranks 16th in the nation and second in the Big 12.
