A woman whose nephew ingested methamphetamine while in her Grand Island home is among Central Nebraskans up for parole this month.

Sarah M. Maret, 25, was convicted in Hall County of felony child abuse for the June 17, 2005, incident. She was sentenced in August 2007 to one year, one month to one year, eight months in prison.

The case against Maret was filed after she and her sister, Valerie Maret, took Valerie Maret's then 18-month-old son to the emergency room, where he tested positive for meth.

Grand Island police determined the sisters had been using meth earlier in the day at Sarah Maret's home while the toddler and his then 2-month-old sibling were present.

The women knew the boy had eaten some meth, so they gave him a suppository in an attempt to flush it from his system, according to police.

The boy didn't suffer any lasting effects from the drug, according to the Hall County attorney's office, and Valerie Maret was sentenced in March 2006 to two years probation with an order for drug and alcohol treatment.

Sarah Maret's hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.
