Organizers for the Central Nebraska Big Red Luncheon on Thursday at the Heartland Events Center announced Monday that tickets for the luncheon are still available.
Nebraska Athletics Director Tom Osborne and new Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini will be the featured speakers at the luncheon at the Eihusen Family Arena.
Tickets can be reserved by sending an e-mail to bigredlunch@gmail.com or by calling Jane Anania at 308-398-4964.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Eihusen Arena and proceeds from the event will go to support the Football Program/Recruiting at UNL.
The event will include lunch, messages from Osborne and Pelini, as well as the opportunity to view the coaching staff's highlight video of their first recruiting class. In addition, the new Husker football staff will be in attendance.

Broncos record 36 season bests at NWU Quad Meet over weekend
Hastings College track and field coach Kendrick Clay was pleased with the effort of his track and field team this past Saturday at the Nebraska Wesleyan Quad Meet. The men's throwers all had personal bests in the weight throw, taking first, second and third place and also excelled in the shot put, taking first through fifth.
Meanwhile, Audrey Curtis qualified for the NAIA Meet in the women's 600 meter run and Jenalle Japhet, Scottie Shaw and the women's 1,600 relay all had excellent performances.
"We need to carry this focus and confidence into the GPAC Indoor Championship this weekend. Our young program is doing very well at a point in the season when we need to progress," Clay said.

Nebraska's Brester garners Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors
LINCOLN The Big 12 Conference announced Monday that Husker sophomore Craig Brester has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performances in competitions from Feb. 12-18. Brester defeated two ranked foes at 197 pounds last weekend as the Huskers topped Rider 27-12 and No. 16 Hofstra 25-10 on an East Coast trip. Brester, a native of Howells, Neb., is currently ranked seventh in the nation in his weight class.
On Saturday, Brester notched a 9-1 major decision over 12th-ranked T.J. Morrison of Rider to spark NU to victories in three of the final four matches of a tight dual. Brester registered a takedown early in the first period and worked his way to a three-point nearfall to take a 5-0 lead after the opening stanza. An escape and another takedown in the second period put him up 8-1 and boosted him to a 9-1 final score.
Brester followed up with a 10-3 decision over No. 10 Joe Rovelli of Hofstra on Sunday. Brester notched two nearfalls as he held Rovelli scoreless until the third period. The win was Brester's third consecutive against a ranked opponent as he is 6-1 against ranked foes on the year.
Brester improved to 20-3 on the year, including 12-3 in duals. He has scored 50 dual points for NU while allowing just 10. Scoring 33 dual takedowns this year, he has been taken down just nine times. He has six pins, three technical falls and four major decisions.
Brester and the Huskers end their regular season on Feb. 24 in Ames, Iowa, against Iowa State.

Single-day tickets available for the U.S. Olympic team trials
OMAHA People wanting to attend this summer's 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming at Qwest Center Omaha can now purchase single- day tickets for the event. Harold Cliff, Chief Operating Officer for the Trials, said good seats in all three price ranges are still available for each day of swimming competition, which begins June 29 and runs through July 6. Cliff said people also can still purchase full-session packages.
Cliff said single-day tickets, which are priced at $75, $60 and $45 per ticket, will guarantee a reserved seat for the morning preliminaries and evening finals. He said that American swimming legend Michael Phelps is expected to compete in six events, ensuring he will compete almost every day of the Trials. In addition, Cliff noted that each day of the Trials is unique because finals are held each evening, with swimmers qualifying for the Olympic Team.
More than 110,000 total tickets have been sold for the eight-day event. The Omaha Sports Commission, which is the local sponsor of the Trials, has set a goal to make the Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha the highest attended swimming event ever held in the United States. The unique configuration of the Olympic-size pool in the Qwest Center brings every seat in the facility closer to the action. UNK Aqualopers finish sixth at RMAC Invite
The Nebraska-Kearney women's swimming & diving team scored 274 points to finish in sixth place at the 2008 RMAC Invitational in Golden, Colo.
This was the first annual RMAC Invite. Other participating teams included Colorado School of Mines, Mesa State, Metro State, Grand Canyon (Ariz.), Morningside (Ia.) and the University of Texas at Permian Basin.
On the women's side, the host Oredigggers won (670.5 points) with Mesa second (578) and Metro third (468). The UTPB men won (929.5) a five-team race.
After scoring 15 points by placing fourth in the 500 freestyle Thursday, Millard West graduate Kari Weihl scored 26 more points over the weekend. She placed sixth in both the 100 (1:07.78) and 200 butterfly (2:36.55).
Scoring the second most points (25) in individual events on Friday and Saturday was Missouri freshman Rachael Cochran. She finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.48), 10th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.92) and 11th in the 200 breaststroke (3:00.54).
Finally, Wayne freshman Regan Ruhl was ninth in the 100 fly (1:09.79) and 11th in the 100 free (1:03.14).
UNK then racked up 50 points in diving as Lincoln sophomore Annie Moyer won at one meters (376.72) and was followed closely by Kearney junior Jen Kirkland (347.47) in third and Weston sophomore Katie Bartek in fifth.
Also, head diving coach Duane Osmanski was named the RMAC Women's Diving Coach of the Year as both Moyer and Kirkland are headed to the NCAA Championships.

Red Out set for Husker men's game Wednesday against Kansas State
LINCOLN The Nebraska Athletic Department is calling for a 'Red Out' for the Husker men's basketball team's contest against No. 24 Kansas State on Wednesday. All fans are encouraged to wear red to support the Huskers as they take on thenationally ranked Wildcats. Thegame Wednesday will be showcased to a national, primetime audience on ESPN2 beginning at 8 p.m.
Nebraska has three home games remaining, including contests with KSU, Oklahoma (Feb. 27) and Colorado (March 9). The matchup with CU will be Senior Day, celebrating the career of NU's lone senior, all-conference center Aleks Maric.
The contest against KSU will be the first of two games against ranked teams for the Huskers this week. NU also travels to College Station, Texas, to take on No.22 Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 23 in a game televised on ESPN Plus.
UNK's Meads earns NCAA Division II recognition
KEARNEY Nebraska-Omaha sophomore Andrew Bridger and Nebraska-Kearney junior Jade Meads are the Nebraska Division II Players of the Week for Feb. 18.
Bridger won the award for the second time this winter while Meads earned the honor for the first time.
In helping the Mavericks (19-5, 5-4 NCC) go 1-1 last week, Bridger averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
He had 25 points and eight assists in a win at St. Cloud State, then tallied 16 points in a loss at Minnesota State.
Meads helped UNK improve to 22-5 (15-2 RMAC) by recording a double double at Metro State, then scoring 24 points at Colorado Christian.
At Metro Friday night, Meads had 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, 10 coming on the offensive end. Against the Cougars, she went 10 of 12 at the line to reach her point total.
UNK to take part in 'Think Pink' Night fundraiser Thursday
KEARNEY The University of Nebraska at Kearney women's basketball team and the Susan G. Komen Foundation have teamed up in an effort to raise awareness, and funds, to help fight breast cancer with "Think Pink" Night.
The event will take place Thursday when the Lopers host Regis at 6 p.m. in the Health & Sports Center.
Admission is free to those fans wearing pink.Additionally, each fan who wears pink will receive a commemorative "Think Pink" Pin and free bag of popcorn courtesy of Runza. Finally, coaches, players and staff will be wearing pink in honor of this occasion and Good Samaritan Hospitals will have representatives on hand with educational material.
Individuals who are interested in supporting the cause can get involved by pledging to commit $ 1 for each rebound the Lopers record against the Rangers (UNK averages 39 rebounds per game) or $ 5 per made 3-pointer (UNK averages about five made 3's per game).

Through the "Think Pink" program, university athletic teams have helped raise more than $250,000 for the Foundation over the past four years. Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.
Today the foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Komen Foundation has raised more than $740 million for the fight against breast cancer.

G.I. Vikes teams win tournaments in Lincoln
The G.I. VIKES 12-1 won the Gold Volleyball Tournament Sunday at the Bison Youth Sports Complex in Lincoln. Team members are Alexis Allgood, Kylie Luth, Bailey Shubert, Mackenzie Burnham, Shelby Schacher, Courtney Lierman, Katie Placke and Ashton Riedy. The team is coached by Sharon Placke and Darla Burnham.
The G.I. VIKES 13-1 Won the Silver Volleyball Tournament at the Vollentines Block Party Sunday at the University of Nebraska Kearney. Team members are Alisha Coleman, Jessica Saddler, Niki Broich, Megan Post, Morgan Mallory, Emma Meyer, Taylor Sandoe and Briana Vitera. The team is coached by Stacy Kelly and Nancy Broich.

Huskers tied for 10th at Florida tournament
PARRISH, Fla. The Nebraska women's golf teamopened its 2008 spring season byclosing the first dayof the 15-team Central District Invitational in a tie for 10th place on Monday at the River Wilderness Golf Club.
The Huskers finished the first 36 holesat 622, 33 strokes off the pace set by the hosts from Michigan State. The Spartans lead a tournament field filled with some of the best teams in the Big 12 and the Big Ten at 589, 14 strokes ahead of second-place Kent State (603). Texas A&M and Ohio State are tied for third at 604, while Texas rounds out the top five in the team race at 607.
Nebraska, which is playing in its first spring competition, managed a 314 in the opening round, before trimming six strokes off its team score in the second round with a 308.
JC Stevenson, who earned her first career individual title in Nebraska's final tournament of the fall campaign, led the Huskers with an eight-over-par 152 on Monday. Stevenson and fellow sophomore Kate White led NU in the first round with scores of 77, before Stevenson added a second-round 75. Stevenson, a native of Grand Island, sits in a tie for 20th place on the individual leaderboard.
Allison Stewart fired the Huskers' best round of the day with a second-round 74 on the 6,099-yard layout at River Wilderness. The senior from Vermillion, S.D., heads into the final round in a tie for 34th at 156, after managing an opening-round 82.
White, a sophomore from Waukegan, Ill., is just one shot back of Stewart, after adding a second-round 80 to finish the day at 157. She is joined by Husker senior Elli Brown in a tie for 36th at 157, after Brown posted rounds of 78 and 79 on Monday.
Although the Huskers sit in a tie for 10th with SMU, they closed the first 36 holes ahead of Big 12 rivals Oklahoma (625), Baylor (631) and Kansas State (646), while also stayingahead of Northwestern (626).
"It was kind of a tough day for us, but that was certainly not unexpected," Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. "Obviously we haven't been outside on the course that much, and so we know it is going to be a process. Right now we're not too concerned with the final results, we're focused on starting the spring and getting better each round."

UNK women drop dual to Central Oklahoma
The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team fell to 2-1 on the season after an 8-1 dual loss to Central Oklahoma Saturday at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.
The Bronchos, a regionally-ranked squad, are now 1-1. Earlier in the day, they lost 7-0 to Nebraska.
UNK's only win in the dual came at No. 2 singles where Kearney sophomore Kristen Messbarger edged Audrey Donovan (6-7, 6-1, 10-8).
Senior Jenna Eichman (No. 5/6-3, 6-4) and freshman Marcelle Strydom (No. 3/7-6, 6-3) battled in their singles setbacks while UNK fell 8-3 at both No. 1(Messbarger and Mary Outhwaite) and No. 3 (Eichman and Strydom) doubles.
