HASTINGS This year, the Cottonwood Festival will reach out to new audiences with the Cottonwood Canopy.
The annual festival will be June 13 through 15 in Brickyard Park in Hastings.
The Cottonwood Festival will provide all of the old favorite activities such as concerts, arts and crafts vendors and food vendors, as well as the Cottonwood Canopy, which will play host to different events.
On Friday, June 13, the canopy will play host to the first-ever wine-tasting event. It will feature the products of several Nebraska vineyards.
"We hope to provide a formal, tasteful event that will appeal to those who love to sample new wines," said Donna Hastings, Cottonwood executive director.
The Buckinghams will play 1960s and 1970s songs to complement the Friday activities.
On Saturday, June 14, the Cottonwood Canopy will open to lovers of antiques. The first 80 Cottonwood ticket holders to sign up Saturday morning will be entitled to a free appraisal of one antique item by an expert.
The Hastings Community Theatre is also planning a presentation under the canopy. Cottonwood's Main Stage will also play host to Jake Owen and the Bellamy Brothers on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, June 15, the Cottonwood Canopy will be devoted to families and family fun. The details of the day are still pending. However, one of the canopy features will be the musical group the String Beans, who play educational songs and teach children about the alphabet, antonyms, reading and Nebraska history.
