Huskers close Big 12 South play at Texas Tech

The Nebraska women's basketball team hits the road on Sunday to play its final Big 12 South Division foe when the Huskers take on Texas Tech at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., with live radio coverage provided by the Husker Sports Network.

Nebraska (18-8 overall, 7-5 Big 12) will try to finish the regular-season with a .500 record against South foes, including wins over then-No. 15 Texas and then-No. 21 Texas A&M. A win over the Lady Raiders (15-11, 3-9) would also secure at least a .500 overall Big 12 record with three regular-season games remaining.

The Huskers are coming off a 73-57 win over Missouri on Thursday night at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. With the win, Nebraska secured its first regular-season sweep of the Tigers since 2000, snapping a seven-game home losing streak to MU that dated back to 2000.

All-America candidate and returning first-team All-Big 12 forward Kelsey Griffin continued her blistering play in February by scoring a season-high 26 points in just 24 minutes.

Griffin, a 6-2 forward from Eagle River, Alaska, scored 18 points in 11 second-half minutes to put away the Tigers early in the second half. Over the last six games, Griffin is averaging 20.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.

In Big 12 play, Griffin ranks among the top five players in the league in scoring (16.8 ppg), field goal percentage (53.7 percent) and free throw percentage (78.4 percent). She also ranks 10th in conference games only in rebounding (7.7 rpg).

Coach Kristy Curry brings her Texas Tech Lady Raiders (15-11, 3-9 Big 12) into Sunday's game following a 65-61 home win over Kansas on Wednesday night. The victory over the Jayhawks ended a five-game losing streak for Tech, dating back to its previous win over Colorado (62-44) on Jan. 26.

The Lady Raiders' other Big 12 win came with a 70-58 win over Texas on Jan. 20.

In addition to having three league wins at home, the Lady Raiders also played Baylor within five (72-67) and Oklahoma State within two points (58-56) at United Spirit Arena. Tech's only lopsided home loss came with a 63-46 setback to Texas A&M on Feb. 2.

In that game, the Lady Raiders led 43-39 with 11:50 to play before going scoreless over the next 10 minutes as the Aggies went on a methodical 22-0 run to claim the victory. Overall, Texas Tech is 11-4 at home this season, including a non-conference win over Arizona State.

Junior college transfer Dominic Seals leads the Lady Raiders with 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Senior center Erin Myrick has added solid numbers with 9.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while sophomore guard Jordan Murphree has pitched in 9.1 points and 3.7 boards per contest. However, Curry has shuffled her lineup frequently during Big 12 play, giving Stanecia Graham, Maria Moore, Keisha Walker, Ashlee Roberson and Tiny Henderson substantial starting experience.
