The Mustang men went 16-2 to win the GPAC regular-season championship and also secure an automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Division II National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. Former area high school basketball standouts Seth Atkins (Grand Island Northwest) and Jack Rother (Greeley-Wolbach) play for Morningside.

The No. 6-seeded Hastings men open play Tuesday in a 7:30 p.m. home game against No. 11 seed Mount Marty (S.D.). If the Broncos win, they would advance to play at No. 3-seeded Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday.

The third-seeded Hastings women have a first-round bye. The NAIA Division II No. 4-rated Broncos will host the Doane-Sioux Falls winner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
