Grand Island Central Catholic secured one of two wild card bids for the Class C-2 State Girls Basketball Tournament and will face undefeated Cambridge in the first round.

The Crusaders (18-7) are the seventh seed and play the 22-0 Trojans on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Southwest.

Ironically, GICC would have faced Cambridge in the district final had it been able to get past Ravenna in the subdistrict championship game. The Trojans' overtime victory against Ravenna was one of three that the Crusaders needed to happen to be able to earn a wild card bid.

The winner faces the Sutton vs. Elmwood-Murdock winner Friday at 3:45 p.m. in the semifinals.

The lone area team to claim a district championship finds itself as the fourth seed in Class D-2.

North Loup-Scotia (22-1) puts its 17-game winning streak on the line against fifth-seed Ewing (20-3). Tip-off Thursday is at 10:45 a.m. at Lincoln Southwest.

The Wildcats are making their fourth state tournament appearance and are looking for their first win in Lincoln.
