St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding was the setting of the Aug. 11, 2007, wedding of Gwendolyn Schmeits of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Rick Kellen of Alton, Iowa. Officiating were Father Joseph Hannappel and Father James Murphy.

Parents of the bride are Frederick and Marie Schmeits of Spalding. Joseph and Elizabeth Kellen of Alton, Iowa, are parents of the groom.

The bride graduated from Spalding Public School in 1994. She received a bachelor of arts in early childhood and elementary education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She is a certified preschool teacher with the Iowa State Voluntary 4-Year-Old Preschool Initiative for Siouxland Human Investment Partnership.

The groom is a 1998 graduate of Spalding Catholic High School at Granville, Iowa. He received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Briar Cliff University at Sioux City, Iowa. He is self-employed in farming.

The couple live outside Alton.
