Faulty wiring caused a Sunday morning fire in east Grand Island.
The fire broke out in the living room of a single-story wood frame house at 3420 S. Stuhr Road, according to Grand Island Rural Fire Chief Chuck Hoffman.
The home's occupants, Justin Suck and three other family members, were home when the fire started, but got out safely, Hoffman said.
The Grand Island Rural Fire Department, St. Libory Fire Department and the Grand Island City Fire Department responded to the mid-morning blaze.
The 25 rural firefighters used a Class A foam solution on the flames for a quick attack. The fire was under control in 10 minutes, Hoffman said.
Despite the quick response, the home sustained severe damage in the living room and one of two bedrooms. Other rooms had heat and smoke damage, he said.
Hoffman estimated damages at $40,000.
The home is owned by Mud Jockies LLC a corporation headed by Jeff Suck. Justin Suck is Jeff's brother, Hoffman said.
An investigation revealed that incorrect wiring was being used for a circuit that served the living room. Hoffman said the wiring had been in place when Mud Jockies purchased the property.
Firefighters remained at the house throughout Sunday and Sunday evening battling occasional hotspots that popped up in attic and sidewall insulation.
The Justin Suck family was being assisted by the Central Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross, Hoffman said.
