Another Brother, ridden and trained by the husband and wife combo of Armando Martinez and Kelli Martinez, breezed to a 3 1/2-length win Friday in the $7,500 allowance feature race at Fonner Park.
The four-year-old Outofthebox colt broke just outside the front speed, took the lead entering the far turn and handily held off Time To Roar for the win.
Kelli Martinez, who trains Another Brother for Kevin and Tammie Hulse, was excited for the win, but felt that their young colt would win.
"We breezed him this week, and he was really sharp," Martinez said. "We knew he was sitting on a big race."
The Martinezes had seen the horse run in California before purchasing him for the Hulses.
"Armando is very good on pedigrees, he knew the sire Outofthebox produces winners that can go long," Kelli Martinez said.
Armando used his California connections well to find Another Brother.
"We bought him off trainer Doug O'Neill for our friends (Hulses)," Armando said. "Doug told me, that he would love the competition here."
Martinez, the rider, was somewhat surprised that Another Brother broke so alertly.
"He's not a half-mile horse, I was surprised when we broke so quick," Martinez said, "but I took hold on the first turn and he settled for me, I knew we'd run big then.
Both Martinezes are looking forward to future races with Another Brother.
"His breeding says he'll rout," Armando said. "When the races get longer here, we hope to stretch him out."
Another Brother covered the six furlongs in 1:13:60. The big favorite he returned $3.60 to win to his backers.
The June and Tressa O'Neill owner combination continues to be red hot at Fonner, as the mother/daughter duo are now three-for-three at the meet as Foolish Deputy trained by Larry Donlin captured the second race.
"Foolish Deputy is a hilarious horse," June O'Neill said. "Before he was gelded he did the terrible three, bit, kicked, and struck.
"Larry's done a great job with him. Putting blinkers on him really did the trick."

* Trainer Steve Larue made a successful Fonner Park debut scoring with two winners. The veteran conditioner brought a string of horses in this week from Beulah Park in Ohio. Karin's Girl won the fourth race and Forty Si captured the sixth for Larue. Both winners were ridden by Yuri Yaranga.
* First race post-time on Saturday is 1:30 p.m.
