LINCOLN Millard West reached the Class A girls basketball championship game for the first time, shutting out Kearney 13-0 in the fourth quarter while winning 45-28 in the semifinals Friday night.
Allison Janecek had 16 points and Heather Pohl 12 for the Wildcats, who play the winner of a late Friday semi between Lincoln Southeast and Millard North.
Millard West led 32-28 after the third quarter.
Maggie Maher had seven points and Nicole Arp six for Kearney (22-4), which will play in the third-place game.
Millard West (24-1) has reached the semifinals in four of its six all-time trips to state but never reached the final until Friday.
Lincoln Southeast 66, Millard North 41
Lincoln Southeast is back in the Class A girls basketball title game after dispatching Millard North 66-41 in the semifinals Friday night.
KK Houser scored 15 points and Marissa Kastanek 14 for the Knights (25-1), who are in the state tournament for the ninth straight year but in the finals for the first time since 2003.
Southeast led 39-16 at halftime. The Knights will meet Millard West, which is making its first appearance in the championship game.
Melissa MacFarlane has 13 points for the Mustangs, who play Kearney in the third-place game.
CLASS B
Alliance 39, Lincoln Pius X 29
Jordan Hooper scored all 17 of her points in the second half and unbeaten defending champion Alliance survived a scoreless second quarter to defeat Lincoln Pius X 39-29 in the Class B girls semifinals Friday.
Alliance (25-0) meets South Sioux City (23-1) in Saturday's final.
The Thunderbolts (17-4) led 15-10 at half after shutting out Alliance in the second quarter, and they led 24-21 entering the fourth quarter.
But Hooper led the Bulldogs over the final eight minutes, and they'll play a South Sioux City team that's seeking its 11th state championship.
Natalie Braun scored 13 points to pace Pius, which plays Elkhorn for third place.
South Sioux City 61, Elkhorn 43
Autumn Boyer scored 16 points to lead South Sioux City back to the Class B girls championship game for the first time in three years with a 61-43 semifinal victory over Elkhorn on Friday.
Alexa Phipps made three 3-pointers and scored all 11 of her points in the first half for the Cardinals (23-1), and McKayla Knudson added 10.
South Sioux City will play Alliance (25-0) in Saturday's final. The Cardinals will be playing for their 11th title, and first since 2005. They were beaten in the 2006 semifinals and didn't make the tournament field last year.
Jackie Keithley asnd Ashley Hagemann scored eight points apiece to pace the Antlers (21-3), who will play Lincoln Pius X in the third-place game.
CLASS C-1
Norfolk Catholic 54, Minden 25
Nicole Brungardt scored a game-high 20 points and Norfolk Catholic turned in another strong defensive performance to beat Minden 54-25 in the Class C1 girls basketball semifinals on Friday.
The Knights (23-1), state runners-up three times since 2003, will play for their first championship Saturday against Bishop Neumann (22-2).
Norfolk Catholic outscored Minden 12-0 in the first quarter and was up 28-8 at half. It was the second straight day the Knights shut down an opponent. They limited Kearney Catholic to 12 points in the second half in Thursday's first-round win.
Brungardt made 9-of-13 free throws as Norfolk Catholic outscored the Whippets 17-5 at the line. Jessica Zaruba was 6-of-6 from the line and finished with 14.
Lee Ann Jameson scored 13 points to lead the Whippets, who are in the tournament for the first time since 1990. Minden (21-3) plays Crofton (23-2) in the third-place game.
Bishop Neumann 43, Crofton 38
Bishop Neumann ended Crofton's bid for a fourth straight Class C1 championship on Friday with a 43-38 victory in the state semifinals.
The Cavaliers (22-2) will play Norfolk Catholic (23-1) on Saturday for their first championship in 10 state tournament appearances.
McKenzie Fujan scored 15 points and Megan Meduna 12 to lead Neumann. Meduna scored six points in the fourth quarter, hitting 4-of-4 free throws to help hold off the Warriors.
Sara Reeves added 10 points for Neumann, which is in the tournament for the first time since 1999.
Fujan scored nine points in the first half as Neumann broke out to a 23-16 halftime lead.
Crofton (23-2) got 15 points from Nicole Van Heek and 10 from Morgan Wilken. The Warriors play Minden in the third-place game.
CLASS C-2
Sutton 51, Cambridge 40
Jamie VanKirk scored 14 points to lead three players in double figures and Sutton defeated previously unbeaten Cambridge 51-40 in a Class C2 girls basketball semifinal on Friday.
The Fillies (23-1) will play Perkins County for their first state title since 1991.
Courtney Stone added 12 points and Courtney Spongberg 10 for Sutton.
Cambridge (23-1) got 16 points from Traci Keyser and 15 from Shelby Schultz. Cambridge plays West Point Central Catholic in the third-place game.
Perkins County 73, West Point CC 63
Sara Wilson scored 26 points to lead three players in double figures, and unbeaten Perkins County returned to the Class C2 championship game with a 73-63 win over West Point Central Catholic on Friday.
Wilson, who had 27 points in a first-round win over Elkhorn Valley, made two 3-pointers and hit 6 of 8 free throws for Perkins County (23-0).
Perkins County meets Sutton in Saturday's final.
Debra Johnson made 11 of 12 free throws and finished with 18 points, and Carlie Sis was 7 of 8 from the line and had 17 points. Perkins County made 28 of 35 foul shots; Central Catholic was 9 of 14.
Nicole Stieren had 18 points, Beth Stratmann 12 and Kristine Ortmeier 10 for Central Catholic.
Ortmeier scored eight points in the second quarter as the Crusaders came from behind to tie it 32-all at halftime.
Perkins County took a 10-point lead in the third quarter and finished off the Crusaders at the line in the fourth.
Perkins County's only state tournament appearance have come since 2006, with last year's bid ending with an overtime loss to Kearney Catholic in the final.
CLASS D-1
Bancroft-Rosalie 75, Arapahoe 36
Megan Stansberry hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and unbeaten Bancroft-Rosalie defeated Arapahoe 75-36 Friday in the Class D1 girls basketball semifinals.
The Panthers (26-0) had to rally from a 14-point second-half deficit to beat Lawrence-Nelson in the first round, but they had no problem against Arapahoe and advanced to the finals after losing in the semifinals two straight years. Bancroft-Rosalie plays first-time finalist Elgin Pope John (25-2) on Saturday.
Stansberry made all five of her 3s and scored 19 points in the first half as Bancroft-Rosalie got out to a 42-20 halftime lead.
Morgan Knippel and Kalene Andersen added 12 points apiece for the Panthers.
Cheryl Braithwait had 16 points to lead the Warriors (20-7), who play Humphrey (20-4) in the third-place game.
Elgin Pope John 55, Humphrey 42
Kasi Stoltz scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and Jackie Seier had eight of her 12 in the decisive third to lead Elgin Pope John to a 55-42 victory over Humphrey in the Class D1 girls basketball semifinals Friday.
Pope John (25-2), which had never advanced past the first round in three previous state appearances, will play for its first championship on Saturday against Bancroft-Rosalie (26-0).
The Crusaders, who led 20-19 at halftime, outscored the Bulldogs 15-7 in the third quarter to break open the game.
Megan Veik, Tracey Eischeid and Danielle Kuhlman each added seven points for Pope John. Eischeid was 7-of-9 on free throws.
Humphrey, in the tournament for the first time since 1986, got 14 points from Leann Osten and 13 from Paige Frauendorfer. The Bulldogs play Arapahoe in the third-place game.
CLASS D-2
Pleasanton 52, Chambers 51
Ashley Axmann had 25 points to lead Pleasanton to a 52-51 victory over Chambers in a Class D2 girls basketball semifinal on Friday night.
The Bulldogs (24-1) will play Ewing in Saturday's final. It will be Pleasanton's first trip to the finals since 1992.
Chambers led 28-21 at halftime and 45-38 after three quarters but saw the advantage evaporate.
Chambers (23-3), in the tournament for the third straight year, will play Falls City Sacred Heart in the consolation game.
Ewing 57, Falls City Sacred Heart 51
Hayley Thramer scored 19 points and Abbey Schueth added 17 to lead defending champion Ewing to the Class D2 girls basketball championship game with a 57-51 semifinal victory over Falls City Sacred Heart on Friday night.
Ewing (22-3) outscored the Irish 20-10 in the fourth quarter and will play Pleasanton in Saturday's final.
Macie Kuker scored 16 points for the Irish (24-2).
The game was a rematch of last year's final, which Ewing won 56-46.
Ewing has reached the championship game in all four of its state appearances, losing in 1984 and '85.
