Chadron State names honor students
CHADRON A number of students from the area achieved the honors lists at Chadron State College during the first semester.
Students on the President's List are Elicia Deakin of Broken Bow; Zachary Bishop of Gibbon; Andrew Gallagher and Brandon Harrington of Grand Island; Tyler Vettel of Marquette; Sarah Placke and Lea Wells of St. Paul; and Lisa Herbert of Taylor.
Those on the Dean's List are Molli Pearman of Anselmo; Barrett Hahn of Aurora; Daniel Schwager of Bartlett; Brittany Clay, Katie Connely, Jared Hanson and Andrew Johnson of Broken Bow; Brent Gumb of Burwell; Bryce Jarzynka and Shane Teichmeier of Cairo; Brandi Ritz of Central City; Matthais Coe, Tiffany Gregory, Michelle Schultz, Virgilio Valleda and Ryan Zavala of Grand Island; Alexis Feske of Henderson; Caitlin Schall of Litchfield; Daniel Ruterbories of Ord; and Cory Beran of Sargent.
UNMC College of Nursing releases dean's list for fall
Several Central Nebraska students enrolled in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing program were named to the dean's list for the 2007 fall semester.
UNMC College of Nursing-Omaha students on the list are Erin Von Bonn of Albion, Jacque Carden of Aurora, Richelle Sorensen of Burwell, Lindsey Wissing of Hastings and Jennifer Nunnenkamp of Henderson.
UNMC College of Nursing-Lincoln Division students are Chad Bredthauer of Aurora, Susan O'Grady and Abigail Snell of Burwell, Chelsea Fries of Dannebrog, Lacey Gee of Grand Island and Peter Jones of Osceola.
UNMC College of Nursing-Kearney Division students on the list are Lindsey Mattox of Broken Bow, Jennifer Asmus and Kaleigh Cook of Grand Island, Jenna Eichman and Emily South of Hastings, Andrea Olbermiller of Loup City and Jessica Fread-John of Ord.
Casandra Race of Bartlett was named to the list for the UNMC College of Nursing-West Division.
Hastings College students to perform in Capstone one-act plays
HASTINGS The Hastings College Department of Theatre Arts will present four student-directed Capstone plays Wednesday through Sunday, March 6, in the Scott Studio Theatre.
Performance times are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for non-Hastings students and senior citizens. The plays are intended for adult audiences.
Area students participating in the plays are Sarah Nottage-Tacey of Hastings, director, and Brian Trader of Hastings as John in "A Gaggle of Saints;" Zach Boyd of Hastings, director of "The Barbarians are Coming;" and Melissa Muller of Aurora as Norma in "Auto-Erotic Misadventure."
Crew: members include Michael Mahanes of Hastings, crew head, and Michael Heuert of Hastings. Set and lighting/sound crew members include Kristopher Wilcox of Doniphan and John Dibbern of Grand Island. Corey VomWeg of Hastings, is the crew head for costumes.
Academic honors
Dale Novotny of Grand Island is among students at the University of Wyoming on the Vice President's Honor Roll for the 2007 fall semeseter. The Vice President's Honor Roll consists of undergraduates who have completed at least six but fewer than 12 hours with a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
Jessica Swerczek of Belgrade was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
Essia Grealish of Hastings was named to the Academic High Honor List at Minnesota State University Mankato for the 2007 fall semester.
Thomas Cleveland of Aurora was named to the Honor Roll at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the 2007 fall semester.
Lana Wilhelmy of Grand Island was named to the Dean's List for the 2007 fall semester at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn. Wilhelmy is the daughter of Linda Wilhelmy and Randy Wilhelmy and is majoring in biblical and theological studies.
Five students from Central Nebraska have been named to the dean's honor roll for the fall 2007 semester at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan. Those students are Jordan Jensen of Aurora and Abby Bartlett, Megan Bartlett, Christina Caley and Laura Leisinger of Grand Island.
Honors
Amy Wieczorek of Grand Island has been selected for membership in the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has also been selected as a contestant in the Nebraska National Teenager Pageant for 2008. Wieczorek is the daughter of Dave and Veronica Wieczorek and is a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School.
Emily Ogden was honored Feb. 12 as an outstanding women student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She was among 69 undergraduate women representing 15 UNL science departments.
Activities
Lindsey Simmons of Boelus has been selected to play as Snout, a laborer, in Central Community College-Columbus production of William Shakespeare's romantic comedy "A Midsummer's Night's Dream." The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 27-29 and 2 p.m. March 30 in the Fine Arts Center at CCC-Columbus. Admission is $5, with tickets available at the door.
Katie Krause of Wood River was a nominee for the Queen of Hearts at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. Krause is a health information management major.
Amanda Simmons of Aurora will be part of a leadership forum with community leaders and University of Nebraska at Kearney students who are members of the 2008 UNK Chancellor's Leadership Class.
Graduates
Sean Dillenback graduated in January from Dana College in Blair. He received a bachelor of science business administration degree with an emphasis in management.
Activities
Megan Cuba of Silver Creek is participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Central Community College-Columbus. Cuba, an accounting major, is working as a business and accounting intern in the Columbus Public Schools administration office. Cuba is a 2007 graduate of Twin River High School and is the daughter of Don and Peg Cuba of Genoa.
Scholarships
Cindi Browne of St. Libory is one of the 2007-08 recipients of the CHS Cooperative Scholarship at Kansas State University. Browne is a senior a Kansas State, majoring in agribusiness.
