Army Private Matthew D. Behring Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During nine weeks of training, Behring Jr. studied Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in items such as basic combat skills to rifle marksmanship and the military justice system. Behring graduated from Northwest High School in 2000 and is the son of Matt Behring Sr. of Grand Island.

Air Force Airman Derek R. Harder has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Robert Harder of Grand Island and Jacqueline Bushhousen of Alda and a 2007 graduate of Wood River High School.
