Big Brothers Big Sisters is kicking off its annual fundraiser, Bowl for Kids' Sake, set for March 28 and 29 and April 4 and 5 at Westside Lanes.
Teams are now forming for the fundraiser.
Bowl for Kids' Sake raised $35,000 in 2007. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to raise $50,000, of which about one-third of proceeds will go to the local group, said Rhonda Veleba, development coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Island.
Funds from the event will allow the organization to support 100 matches in the next year.
"It's free for kids and big brothers/sisters, but it costs (the organization) about $500 per year to support and maintain the match," Veleba said.
As of Feb. 22, Big Brothers Big Sisters had about 23 teams signed up for Bowl for Kids' Sake. The organization would like to see 75 teams signed up, Veleba said.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is also giving away a chance to win a trip for two to Wendover Casinos in Nevada to any business that forms three or more teams.
"Offering the trip is a new promotion this year to attract new teams that have never participated before," Veleba said.
