Heartland CASA and Paul Warshauer's Murders R Us will present Heartland CASA's second annual dinner theater production of "The Diamond Heist" on March 15 at the Platt-Duetsche.
The original play, written by Warshauer, is an interactive comedy focused around a large diamond and a museum being proposed to display it.
"I think he writes this as he goes," said Diana Meyer, executive director of Heartland CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). "Some actors are local talent. It's a very unique format."
There are many twists and turns in the production, and the audience will watch throughout the play to guess who stole the diamonds, Meyer said.
Warshauer's Murders R Us has presented more than 200 original murder mystery plays. His group travels the states doing mainly murder mysteries for corporations.
"CASA is a wonderful agency, one of the best agencies I've seen," Warshauer said. "Obviously, they didn't want to do a murder mystery, so we are doing a jewel heist."
Proceeds from the event will go to support the local Heartland CASA. The organization assigns volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in juvenile court. Heartland CASA serves Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties.
Heartland CASA provides community volunteers to be the eyes and ears for juvenile court judges on cases that involve children, Meyer said.
"We have 34 active volunteers right now," she said. "As of Feb. 1, we are serving 61 children."
The agency started in 1996 and since has served 209 children.
Bobbi Herbst has been volunteering for Heartland CASA for about five years.
"I get to step out of my world and into somebody else's," Herbst said. "If you're looking for a way to help, this is it."
Dinner for the event will be provided by Whitefoot Catering.
