A man authorities believe wrapped a blanket tightly around an infant's head, causing her death, was arraigned on the charge of manslaughter in Hall County Court Wednesday.
Christopher M. Klein, 20, appeared in court with his attorney, Todd Lancaster of the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy.
Klein's bond remains at 10 percent of $250,000.
He's also charged with violating the Sex Offender Registration Act for failing to register after moving to Grand Island from the Minneapolis area several months ago. Preliminary hearings for both cases are scheduled for 9 a.m. April 21.
Klein and the infant's mother, Tiffany Ann Bohlen, also known as Tiffany Balch, 19, were arrested after law enforcement and paramedics were called to their home, 119 W. 11th St., on Feb. 27.
Authorities said Klein gave 7-week-old Caitlynne Bohlen a pacifier, wrapped the blanket around her head and squeezed her against the side of her bassinet with a pillow. He told authorities he learned the technique from Bohlen, who is also charged with manslaughter.
Bohlen's bond was lowered from 10 percent of $250,000 to 10 percent of $25,000 and she was ordered to live with her parents. Her bond was posted Tuesday and she's scheduled to return to court on May 7.
