SIOUX CITY, Iowa < Hastings College advanced four wrestlers out of the first round Thursday in the NAIA national wrestling championships.
Grand Island freshman Brandon Hudiburgh (27-11 at 197 pounds) and Jarrod Wiens (10-11 at 125) of Hastings both received a first-round byes to advance.
Bronco Jeff Fallon (15-16 at 141) won an 8-5 decision over Kyle Jahn of McKendree University (Ill.). HC's Andrew Hare won an 8-7 decision at 149 over Tomas Rosa of Southern Oregon University.
Also in the 141-pound weight class, Hastings' Andrew Wiens (13-22) lost an 8-5 decision to Brandon Nice of Missour Valley College.
Andrew Sorenson (14-20) of Hastings lost a 17-5 major decision to JaVonte Ashford of King College (Tenn.) in his first-round match.
At 174, Bronco Jameon Rush (26-24) was defeated in a 13-5 major decision by Brendon DeCock of University of Great Falls (Mont.).
Hastings 285-pounder Cody Millard (19-6) suffered a 5-3 loss in the first round to Frankie Morgan of King College.

Hastings College relay fails to advance
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. The Hastings College women's 4x400-meter relay team failed to advance out of preliminaries Thursday during first-day action in the NAIA indoor track and field national championships.
Hastings' squad team of Samantha Kasten, Jamie Volz, Jenalle Japhet and Audrey Curtis finished 18th in the preliminaries in 4:05.11.
Hastings St. Cecilia graduate Scott VanCura is scheduled to compete in the weight throw at 1 p.m. Friday.
