Joseph's College names February honor students
Imelda Garcia was named student of the month for February at Joseph's College of Beauty in Grand Island.
Named to the honor roll for the month (94 percent and above) were Hope Anderson, Whitney Flinn, Garcia, and Amanda Schwenke.
Other honors for the month went to Garcia, high retail sales; Anderson, high GPA; and Garcia, high credits.
Achieving perfect attendance for February were Tonia Fangmeier, Garcia, Flinn, and Lacey Tvrdy. Fangmeier and Flinn were also recognized as having perfect attendance their entire enrollment.
UNK Band ensembles presented Winter Concert
KEARNEY The University of Nebraska at Kearney Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble recently presented a winter concert at the Fine Arts Recital Hall recently.
Area students who participated were Jody Neel of Archer, Ashley Lawton of Aurora, Kallie McDermott of Doniphan, Jennifer Rathman of Farwell, Blaine Drozd of Genoa, Brandon Bohn and Amy Smallcomb of Gibbon, Michelle Bergholz, Kathryn Brozek, Stephen Carlson, Mackenzie Cochran, Alicia Griesman, Katelyn Rempe and Alicia Spelts of Grand Island; Brittney Kramer of Hastings, David Ziola of Phillips, Matt Hartington of St. Paul and Sarah Uhrich of Wood River.
Doane College announce December graduates
CRETE Several area students completed their academic degrees in December at Doane College.
Students who graduated with a master of education in curriculum and instruction were Jessica Hillman of Broken Bow, Zachary Foster of Doniphan and Kelly Crawford, Deanna Rundle, Dana Thompson, and Jill Waite all of Hastings.
Daniel J. Peters of Hastings graduated with a master of arts in management degree.
Academic honors
Alicia Ronne of Shelton as been named to the President's List at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Ronne achieved this honor by earning a straight-A grade point average during the Fall 2007 semester.
Elizabeth Pauley of Hastings has been named a Cardinal Scholar Athlete for the Fall 2007 at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. To qualify for this honor, a student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
Adam Anderson of Wood River has been named to the Dean's List at Chadron State College for the Fall semester.
Richard Goble and Lindsay Leigh Zana of Grand Island have both been named to the Oklahoma City University honor roll for the fall 2007 semester.
Activities
Jenna Huffman of Grand Island will be participating in Kansas State University's comedic opera "Too Many Sopranos." Huffman will be responsible in costume coordination and design. She is currently a senior in theater at Kansas State.
Jessica Jones of Doniphan and Craig Beaman of Grand Island are among two teams to be recognized by the Kay Payne Undergraduate Case competition at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Jones was part of the first place team who was awarded a $1,200 prize; and Beaman was part of the second place teams who was awarded a $800 prize.
Nate Janulewicz and Mary Wohlgemuth, both of Grand Island, were participants in the Midwest Model United Nations Conference in St. Louis as part of a team from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Youth notes
Osburn achieves scouts' top rank
CAIRO Matthew Osburn, a Junior at Centura High School, was honored at a Court of Honor ceremony Feb. 17 at the Cairo United Methodist church for earning the highest rank of Boy Scouting, the Eagle rank.
Osburn is the son of Bret and Christy Osburn of Cairo.
