A group of 17 people from the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island will head to southern Louisiana March 15 through 23 to join in the ongoing efforts to help victims of the August 2005 hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

This will be the fourth work crew the church has sent to serve in the New Orleans area. Several of the team members are returning to the area for the second or third time, including the team leader, Dick Strickland.

In the past, returning team members have commented on the large amount of work remaining to be completed in the devastated region.

"We are humbled by these church members who are willing to give of their vacation time and resources to help those who are still recovering from the massive storm destruction," Pastor Gary Schulte explained. "For many of the team members, this experience launches these individuals into a new stage of growth in their faith."

The team from the Evangelical Free Church will work through Touch Global Crisis Response of the Evangelical Free Church of America, which has set up a disaster relief center in Covington, La., about 25 miles north of New Orleans.

The team will stay at Trinity Church in Covington the entire week and will work on the continued rebuilding of homes in the New Orleans area. Since Katrina, Trinity Church has had teams in every week for the past two and a half years, for a total of more than 900 teams from 40 states. This includes 10,000 volunteers and more than 400,000 hours of volunteer labor. For the month of March, more than 1,200 volunteers are scheduled to be at Trinity Church.

The E-Free team also is accepting donations to assist victims and relief operations. A specific list of items can be obtained by calling 382-1898 or going online directly to EFCA Crisis Response at www.efca.org/katrina.
