An attempt to conceal a gun in an iced-over lake resulted in three felonies and a misdemeanor being filed against a Grand Island man Monday.

Alejandro Renteria, also known as Alex Renteria, 23, of 520 O'Neill Circle, faces charges of tampering with physical evidence, terroristic threats and using a weapon to commit a felony, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

Officers received a report at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday that a 19-year-old man was threatened at the Pier Park skate park by Renteria, said police Sgt. Jerry Atwell.

The man is identified in the charge against Renteria as Steve L. Thomas.

Atwell said as officers tried to track Renteria down, a friend, Luis Jaime, threw the gun into Pier Park Lake. However, the .22 caliber Ruger landed on the ice in the lake, Atwell said.

According to court documents, officers retrieved the gun from the iced-over lake.

Jaime, 18, of Grand Island was cited Saturday for possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and menacing threats, which are all misdemeanors. No charges had been filed against him in Hall County Court as of Monday.

Renteria's bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000 and he was ordered not to have any contact with Thomas. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. May 12.
