Editor's note: Dmitry Medvedev is the new Russian President. His prime minister is former president Vladimir Putin. Medvedev's name means "bear" in the Russian language.

Once upon a time there was a clever fox who lived in a beautiful castle on the Red Square. He ruled a large, wonderful country, a country with friendly and generous people. Although the fox was allowed to rule this country only for two terms, he wanted to make sure that he still would remain influential and powerful after his term ended. At first he was not quite sure how to do this. But then the clever fox had an idea and came up with a plan. He asked his friend, the bear, to help him out. The fox invited the bear to become president of this great country and the fox himself would be his prime minister. The bear had been the fox's friend for many years, but the bear was young and had little experience in running a country. He had never been elected to a government position before and he was overjoyed by the huge opportunity presented to him. He thought and believed he would be in charge. Once the bear had agreed the fox said: "now we must share and share alike".

The clever fox then told the people that they could choose a new president in a free and democratic process. Despite bad weather and heavy snow on election day the people of that large and beautiful country went in great numbers to vote. However there were a few who had opposed this scheme. They had hoped to become the next president, but they did not have a chance.

The presidential election went exactly like the fox had planned. The outcome was certain, even before the people had voted. The bear won with over 70 percent of the votes, a landslide victory. How "democratic" the election was is difficult to say. It is whispered that some of the voters who work in government positions would lose their jobs if they would not vote for the bear. It is now expected that the bear will govern in the same manner as the fox had done in the past. The bear's "victory will serve as a guarantee that the course we have chosen, the successful course we have been following over the past eight years, will be continued" the fox said.

In the future will the fox or the bear run that country? We have to wait and see. Some of the people are questioning if the bear will ever be completely in command. They had hoped for a change, for more freedom, and for more economic stability from the bear they just have elected.

The moral of the story is: if you are a young ambitious bear and don't just want to be the manager of the fox's political principles but want to fight for your own beliefs, don't get "de-clawed" before you start to rule.
