KU knocks out Huskers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Taylor McIntosh had 13 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night to lead Kansas to the second big upset of the day in the Big 12 women's tournament, a 73-67 win over Nebraska.

The Jayhawks won as an 11th seed for the second straight year. Last year they beat Oklahoma State, the team they will face in the second round on Wednesday. Kansas lost 59-54 to the Cowgirls in January.

Earlier Tuesday, 12th-seeded Missouri knocked off Oklahoma, marking the first time in tournament history a 12 seed won.

The Jayhawks (16-14), who snapped a five-game losing streak, won despite committing 24 turnovers and getting just nine points from leading scorer Danielle McCray.

McCray was in foul trouble all game and shot just 3-for-12 from the floor.

In her absence, Kansas got contributions from nearly everyone and stifled the Huskers defensively, holding them to 33 percent shooting.

A 3-pointer by Yvonne Turner pulled Nebraska to within four at 68-64 with 1:28 left in the game, but Kansas' Sade Morris responded with a floater in the lane to put the Jayhawks back up six.

McIntosh shot 5-of-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line. Morris finished with 13 points and Kelly Kohn came off the bench to score 11 for the Jayhawks.

Kelsey Griffin had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Nebraska (20-11), which still figures to be in solid shape for an NCAA Tournament berth despite the upset. Turner finished with 14 points.

Kansas led 30-26 at halftime and opened the second half on a 22-9 run, spreading the gap to 52-35 when Kohn connected on a fast-break lay-up and free throw.

The Jayhawks had no trouble driving around the tired-looking Husker defenders, working their way into the lane for easy lay-ups. Kansas hit 9-of-10 shots at one point during the run.
