Free transportation is available from Grand Island to a DeafNation Expo in Omaha on April 19.

Those who wish to attend need to reserve a spot on the bus by Friday, however.

The transportation is being provided free of charge for anyone interested by Hamilton Relay, which provides telephone services to the deaf and hard of hearing in Nebraska. The bus will leave from the Bosselman Truck Stop at Interstate 80 and Highway 281 at 8:15 a.m. and will begin its return trip from Omaha to Grand Island at 4 p.m.

The 2008 Midwest Technology/Education Expo at the Omaha Civic Auditorium will be co-sponsored by the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

This is the first year the expo has been held in Nebraska, and the commission for the deaf wanted as many Nebraskans as possible to have an opportunity to attend, said Kyle Petersen, the commission's public information officer.

The expo runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those planning to attend are encouraged to pre-register at www.deafnation.com.

Included in the expo will be hearing loss seminars, hearing loss products and services, workshops, live entertainment, educational opportunities and an American Sign Language festival. Admission is also free.

Those involved in deaf education, health care, senior care and members of the general public are encouraged to attend.

To reserve a spot on the bus, contact Kyle Petersen by calling (402) 471-3593, faxing (402) 471-3067, or by e-mailing kyle.petersen@ncdhh.ne.gov.
