HASTINGS Five men have been arrested and charged in Hastings with distributing drugs in that community.

Daniel Berding, 35, Robert Acevedo Sr., 39, and Jose Rodriguez, 40, were all arrested on warrants for distributing methamphetamine. Acevedo was also charged with being a felon in possession of a gun and possession of meth, according to a press release from the Hastings Police Department.

Alfonso Perez, 31, was arrested on a warrant for possession of meth, and Tyson Burtis, 21, was arrested for three counts of distribution of marijuana and pharmaceutical narcotics, according to the release.

The arrests were made on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Arrest warrant affidavits for the men gave the following information:

Berding sold meth to a law enforcement confidential informant on Jan. 4 for $100, and Acevedo made a sale to an informant on Jan. 19 for $500.

On Jan. 30, Rodriguez sold two 1/8-ounce bags of meth for $500 to an informant.

All three sales were monitored by law enforcement using audio surveillance.

On Dec. 29, 2007, a Hastings police officer found Perez in possession of several small rocks of crystal meth. In response to a question from the officer, Perez admitted that he had additional meth in his residence and preceded to show the officer where it was kept.

Burtis made several drug sales in Hastings. On Dec. 7, 2007, he sold a half pound of marijuana to a law enforcement informant. Another sale, this time involving a pound of marijuana and some prescription pills, was made on Dec. 21, 2007. A third sale occurred on Jan. 26. On that date, Burtis sold marijuana and three prescription pills to a law enforcement informant.

The first two sales were monitored by authorities using audio surveillance. There was no information in the affidavit regarding surveillance and the third sale.

All five men are being held in the Adams County Jail.

The Hastings Police Department/Adams County Sheriff's Department City/County Drug Task Force has been investigating these men for six months.

The arrests were a culmination of a multi-agency investigation into the use and distribution of illegal substances in the Hastings area. Police have additional arrest warrants to serve and anticipate additional arrests.
