Lincoln East blanks GISH girls, 8-0

LINCOLN Grand Island got off to a rough start in its season opener Thursday, dropping an 8-0 decision at Lincoln East.

East dominated, scoring four goals in each half against the Islanders (0-1).

"They are just a powerful team," GISH coach Chuck DeWitt said. "We're trying to work some things out on offense and we just had people in the wrong spots.

"I thought by the end of the game we were doing a better job having people in the right places."

G.I. boys fall 2-0 to Lincoln East in opener

Lincoln East scored two first-half goals and made it stand up in its 2-0 win over Grand Island on Thursday.

"Even there are no such things as moral victories, I pleased with our team's effort," GISH coach Jeremy Jensen said.

"We controlled the tempo for much of the game and had our opportunities to score," Jensen said. "We didn't convert those, but we proved we belonged on the same field with one of the better teams in the state."

The Islanders fell to 0-1.
