Three separate traffic stops in two days on Interstate 80 between Kearney and Omaha led to the seizure of nearly 30 pounds of marijuana this week.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, a trooper stopped a black 2008 Nissan for speeding. The vehicle was headed east near Aurora, according a press release from the State Patrol.
The release also gave the following information:
A Hall County Sheriff's Department patrol dog was called to the scene and indicated the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle. Authorities then found a little more than 12 pounds of marijuana.
The driver of the vehicle, Jesus Ochoa, 56, of San Francisco, was lodged in the Hamilton County Jail for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
Two stops on Wednesday also led to seizures of marijuana totaling more than 17 pounds.
Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, a trooper stopped a 2008 Hyundai about three miles east of the Waverly interchange. A State Patrol canine indicated the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle and two packages, containing nearly 16 pounds of marijuana, were found in a cardboard box in the trunk of the vehicle.
The driver Abdul Trotman, 33, of Hollywood, Fla., was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, a trooper stopped a 2006 Chevrolet at the Kearney interchange for improperly changing lanes, having expired in-transits and not having license plates. The trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and found 1.4 pounds of marijuana in a suitcase in the trunk of the vehicle.
The driver, Mathew Baker, 18, of Cumming, Iowa, was lodged in the Buffalo County Jail for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
