Play of the Day

Channing Hill, a New York-based rider from Columbus, earned his first graded stakes victory when he guided Golden Dawn to a win in the $225,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap (G2) on Feb. 16 at Laurel Park.

Today Hill will seek a win that will be much easier when he rides Derivative Trader in a six-furlong maiden special weight race that is carded as today's fourth event. Like Hill, Derivative Trader is a New York shipper.

Richard Violette used to train the five-year-old mare, who is now in the capable hands of trainer David Grimes.

Derivative Trader answered any questions about a layoff of more than 14 months by finishing a fast-closing third in a four-furlong race in her Fonner Park debut on March 1. Today, the extra added distance and a field that's anything but overwhelming makes former $60,000 sale purchase an easy winner in Hill's return to Nebraska.

Welcome back, Channing.

Give us $50 to win.

Starting balance: $1,500

Saturday's result: A trifecta bet in the eighth with Another Brother on top of the field actually cost us $3.40. But a $58 bet on Another Brother to win left us with a $19.80 profit for the day.

Current balance: $1,516.70
