Clash of Angels broke sharply out of the gate amidst some swirling snowflakes and cruised to victory over six horses in a $7,500 allowance race at Fonner Park Sunday.
Ridden by Yuri Yaranga, Clash of Angels opened up a six-length lead on the backstretch and held off a late charge from Jackie's Charm to post a 1 1/4 length win in the six-furlong dash.
Clash of Angels, owned and trained by Tom Pojar, covered the six furlongs in 1:15:60.
Pojar bought the daughter of Breeder's Cup Sprint winner Thunderello last year at auction in Chicago with a look at the future.
"We hope to run her some, then use her as a broodmare," Pojar said. "We have the stallion L'Storm. She should work well with him."
Pojar has a seven horse stable that may be heard from in the future.
"Our horses are just starting to come into shape after the winter lay-off," Pojar said.
Favored by the betting public, Clash of Angels returned $4.60 to win.
The Clash of Angels/Jackie's Charm exacta returned $16.60, and a trifecta completed by Ride The Wave returned $23.20.
Yaranga continued his torrid ways as he scored three times on the card, guiding Tradewater Pirate to a win in race one and Site Alarm to victory in the sixth race along with his feature race win on Clash of Angels.
Earlier on the card Channing Hill earned a victory aboard David Grimes' Derivative Trader.
Hill, taking a few days off from riding in New York to visit friends and family in Nebraska, was happy to have a chance to ride at Fonner.
"It's always great to get back home," Hill said. "The people here are the best, in Nebraska and here at Fonner.
"I was happy to win a race. Hopefully we can do it again in the future, when I have some time off."
