GRAND ISLAND

Legislative sessions shown on cable television

The city of Grand Island and Charter Communications are airing the Nebraska Unicameral legislative session on Channel 3 as well as digital basic channel NET2.

Local weather updates will continue to be provided on Weather Channel 22.

Channel 3 shows the NET2 programming from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when the Unicameral is in session. Exceptions will be made for the five recess days remaining when the Unicameral is not scheduled.

The final day of the legislative session is currently scheduled for April 17 and after that day Channel 3 will resume its regular programming.

Pump & Pantry to host annual Easter egg hunt

The 32nd annual Pump & Pantry/GI Family Radio Easter Egg Hunt will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island Senior High practice fields.

The event is open to children ages 10 and under and will include a live appearance by the Easter Bunny, chances to win Easter prizes, and drinks courtesy of Coke and milk courtesy of Meadow Gold.

The Grand Island Fire Department will sound a horn to start the hunt at 11 a.m. sharp.

YWCA to announce campaign results later this month

On March 31, the Grand Island YWCA plans to announce the results of its annual campaign, which was scheduled to conclude on Saturday.

The fundraising efforts began Nov. 1, with a fundraising goal of $55,000 to help with operating funds and programs.

Mark Stelk, owner of General Collection in Grand Island, offered to give the YWCA a $5,000 match gift if the organization hit its $55,000 goal, increasing the total amount raised to $60,000.

Youth Leadership Tomorrow deadline is March 30

Youth Leadership Tomorrow (YLT) is accepting applications from high school freshmen who wish to participate in the program their sophomore year.

Applications are available at each high school, at www.leadershiptomorrow.com and by calling 382-9210. The deadline to submit an application is March 30.

YLT brings together high school sophomores from seven schools in Hall County who are interested in developing their leadership skills and improving their school and community. YLT serves 60 to 70 high school sophomores each year.

Leukemia teleconference planned March 27

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will host a free presentation on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), with Grand Island as one of seven teleconference sites. The presentation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 27 at St. Francis Memorial Center Telehill conference room on the second floor.

The presentation will focus on the latest information on CLL, including treatments and how therapy works for patients. Patients, family members, friends and health professionals are invited to attend.

American Quarter Horse event to be in Grand Island

The Winters End Spin, an American Quarter Horse Association-approved special event, is set for March 29 and 30 at the RiverLane Ranch.

RiverLane Ranch is located just north of the Interstate 80/South Locust interchange.

American Quarter Horse shows test horses' abilities in dozen of different classes. This event is for reining enthusiasts.

People who exhibit at an American Quarter Horse show earn points that turn into awards or cash at the end of the year. Exhibitors and horses can also qualify for the AQHA or American Quarter Horse Youth Association world championship shows.

ALDA

Pancake feed planned by volunteer fire department

The Alda Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a pancake feed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 at the Alda Community Center.

The cost per person is $5 for all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs and bacon. Coffee, milk, orange and apple juices will also be available. Children 10 and under eat for $1.

A raffle will also be held.


NORTH LOUP

North Loup Lions Club schedules pancake feed

The North Loup Lions Club has scheduled its annual pancake feed to begin at 5 p.m. March 29, at the North Loup Community Hall. Free-will donations will be accepted, with proceeds being used for park equipment.

SHELTON

Benefit dinner for melanoma sufferer planned

A soup supper benefit for Lisa Dittmar will be at 5 p.m. March 29 at Shelton High School cafeteria and gym. A live auction with live music will follow at 7:30.

Dittmar is a 1995 graduate of Shelton High School. She was recently diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and is undergoing chemotherapy at the Cancer Center in Grand Island.

Donations may be sent to First State Bank in Shelton for the Lisa Dittmar Healthcare Benefit Fund.


HASTINGS

House built by CCC-Hastings students to be sold

Forty-four Central Community College Hastings students have built a house that will be sold by auction in May. Interested individuals may tour the home from 2 to 4 p.m. April 6 and April 20 at the college.

The 1,680-square-foot, ranch style house was built to Uniform Building Code standards by students in the construction technology, electrical technology, and heating, air conditioning and refrigeration programs. Building a house is an annual project on campus, and this is the 12th house to be completed.

LINCOLN

Two people with Central Nebraska ties seek pardons

A Grand Island man and a man convicted in Adams County are among people requesting pardons this month.

Andrew L. Billington, 31, of Grand Island was convicted of third-degree assault in Hall County. He was sentenced in July 2001 to 30 days in jail. He is requesting a full pardon.

Richard K. Crissman, 44, of Gilbert, Ariz., was convicted in Adams County of burglary. He was sentenced in June 1983 to 18 months in prison. He is requesting a full pardon.

The Nebraska Board of Pardons will have a public meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the governor's hearing room on the second floor of the state Capitol in Lincoln.
