The Heartland Events Center will host Christian rock band Building 429 at 8 p.m. Friday, March 28.

The concert is sponsored by Nebraska Youth Ministries, the youth department for the Assemblies of God in Nebraska.

The organization had been scheduling a concert in the state each year, such as a show in Hastings two years featuring Superchick, KJ52 and Seventh Day Slumber, said Jenny Schneckloth, a Nebraska Youth Ministries staff member.

But the Building 429 show is part of a greater emphasis on those events, including an April 27 show with Casting Crowns in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

"We're kind of starting to do it a little more regularly," Schneckloth said.

The band was formed nearly a decade ago in North Carolina. Its name is derived from the Bible verse Ephesians 4:29, which instructs readers to "not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs."

Building 429 made its breakthrough with the 2004 release of "Space in Between Us," whose lead single, "Glory Defined," topped eight music charts and was named BMI's Christian Song of the Year.

The next year, the group received the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year. Subsequent albums include "Rise" and last year's "Iris to Iris."

The show's opening act is Tenth Hour Calling of Kearney, which is reuniting for the show after a few years apart.

Nebraska Youth Ministries also hosts camps, conventions and a fine arts festival for Nebraska teens.

Tickets are available at (402) 475-1212, www.ticketmaster.com, the Fonner Park business office or through Nebraska Youth Ministries at 384-1234.
